Sound Design Demo Reel

The Blacksmith Game

For my sound design reel, I worked on the game Blacksmith, which has a medieval feel. The character wakes up, walks outside, and starts collecting objects like a key, treasure chest, and sword. I built the soundscape by combining my own foley recordings with sounds from Soundly and some assets provided by my instructor. Even when I used existing sounds, I didn’t leave them untouched, I manipulated them in my DAW to better fit the mood and weight of the world. I used EQ, compression, pitch shifting, layering, and reverb to make the metal objects feel heavier and more realistic, and to give the environment more depth. I spent time shaping small details, like footsteps and object handling, so they felt natural and immersive. After editing, I implemented everything in Wwise, where I set up events and made sure the sounds triggered and behaved correctly in the game. I also learned how to use OBS to record gameplay with my audio working in real time. Overall, this project helped me understand how sound design isn’t just about creating sounds, but about shaping and placing them in a way that supports the story and gameplay.
